Comedian Peter Kay has announced he will be performing two special live shows in August 2021.

The Car Share comedian stepped back from the public eye in 2017, and in August he will be participating in two Q&As.

The upcoming matinée and evening concert will take place at the O2 Apollo on August 7, in aid of Doing It For Laura and The Brain Tumour Charity.

This will mark the first time in three years the funnyman from Bolton will perform live on stage.

Peter cancelled his 14-month tour in 2017 due to "unforeseen family circumstances".

He was last seen appearing on a BBC comedy special in lockdown for Children in Need and Comic Relief, but he last performed in front of a crowd during a surprise Car Share appearance in 2018.

Doing It For Laura is a charity set up for Laura Nuttall, a student from Lancashire.

The charity said on Facebook : "Our beautiful 20-year-old Laura was diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme in October 2018 after a brain scan that showed six brain tumours

"Laura was in her first term at Kings College London after getting straight A’s in her A-levels last August."

Laura's mum added: "I still can't quite believe this is really happening! We are so incredibly grateful to Peter for this."

Laura had been hoping to join the Royal Navy after completing her degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, but her dream was ripped away after her CT and MRI scan revealed she had eight brain tumours.

A fundraising page has been set up for Laura in the hope of raising £80,000 for further treatment, which isn't available on the NHS.

On the page, her parents have written: "Our daughter, Laura was diagnosed with brain cancer in Autumn 2018 when she was just 18.

"She was given a prognosis of roughly 12 months and told to go away and make memories. She bravely endured a craniotomy to remove the largest tumour and then started a gruelling program of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

"But then we found an innovative new immunotherapy treatment available only in Germany and with the help of our friends, community and the wonderful people who donated through GoFundMe, we were able to take Laura out to Cologne on a regular basis and to our delight, her immune system responded to the treatment."

Laura's parents said she "remained well" and returned back to university, but a "routine MRI scan revealed regrowth on the site of the original tumour".

The student had a second surgery at the end of March, and "now the plan is for 2 further dendritic cell vaccinations and a course of a checkpoint inhibitor called Pembrolizumab".

However, this isn't available on the NHS, and the family are facing the enormous challenge of raising a further £80,000.
