A young man who suddenly "felt strange" at work was diagnosed with a brain tumour on Christmas Eve.

Joshua Cullen, 24, was left stunned when he was given the devastating diagnosis just days after he struggled to stand and lost consciousness.

The DHL operations agent, who works at East Midlands Airport, said he started to feel "droopy" on one side of his face and his arm began to "seize up".

Joshua, who grew up in Swineshead Bridge in Lincolnshire, woke up inside an ambulance, and had a CT scan which showed a mass on his brain.

After being diagnosed with a tumour, he told LincolnshireLive: “There are so many different things going through my mind and I don’t really know how to make heads or tails of them all.”

Joshua, who now lives in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, began to feel unwell at work on December 21, and a colleague helped him onto the floor as he struggled to stay on his feet.

He was rushed to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Mr Cullen said: “I had never had a seizure before or anything.

“At 10pm or so I started to feel droopy on one side of my face and my arm started to seize up a bit. I tried to get against the pillar and tried to shout for help.

“One of my mates said a bit later on that he didn’t hear anything. He said he turned around and thought I was doing some sort of weird dance.

“He helped me to the ground and I don’t remember too much as I went unconscious for five minutes.

“The next thing I remember seeing was the inside of the ambulance.”

A CT scan showed a mass on his brain, and he underwent an MRI scan the following day before being discharged 24 hours later.

Joshua will undergo a biopsy to find out if the tumour is cancerous (

On Christmas Eve, he received a call telling him he had a glioma in the motor cortex of the parietal lobe of his brain, otherwise known as a primary brain tumour.

He said: “There was a shock at first. A few months ago I actually went for a CT scan at Boston Pilgrim Hospital.

“When I had my medical at DHL, I did the blood pressure test and my right side went numb. I went to the doctors and had a CT scan but when the results came back it was clear so in the space of two months I have suddenly got a tumour. "

Mr Cullen, who is no longer working, is now hoping to have a biopsy on Thursday, where he will discover whether the tumour is cancerous or not.

He said: “Recently it has been a shock emotion because part of me goes ‘I have got it, there is not much I can do right now’.

“I just have to sort of live my life as normal and let the hospital do their work.”

His Magdi Cullen has set up a JustGiving page to help raise funds for things for him to look forward to.

She said: “He has only recently moved to Long Eaton in Derbyshire to start a new job. All that has been put on hold.

“Joshua is the kindest, caring, helpful, loving and strongest person I know. He will give you the shirt off his back to help you.

“He loves country music, is passionate about aviation and would love to visit New Zealand."
