But more than the runs, his 15 wickets at 25.13 proved to be more crucial as he regularly provided the breakthroughs for then-skipper MS Dhoni throughout the tournament.

Yuvi finished as the 8th highest run-scorer and the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament

Hailing his heroic feats, Laxman wrote: "An inspiration to many through his successful conquest of cancer, it’s scarcely believable that @yuvisofficial carried the team on his shoulders at the 2011 World Cup when gravely unwell. That he registered his highest ODI score after his recovery is tribute to his unwavering spirit."

Right after his glorious run in the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer. A rare germ-cell tumor was located between his two lungs which was there when he was representing the country at the World Cup.

Yuvraj immediately headed to the United States for treatment and rehabilitation. In March 2012, Yuvraj was discharged from the hospital after completing his third and final cycle of chemotherapy and returned to India in April.

He managed to return to the national team and played ODI cricket for 3 years, also managing to hit his highest score in the format - 150 vs England in Cuttack in 2017. He also played 35 T20Is during this period.
