NY Firefighter With Cancer Gets ‘Lifelong Wish' to Super Bowl

What to Know

  • A firefighter from Westchester will be going to the Super Bowl
  • He was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer recently and his family and friends wanted to fulfill his lifelong wish
  • NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell personally delivered the tickets

A New York firefighter who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer will fulfill his lifelong wish to attend the Super Bowl, his fire department says.

In a Facebook post Sunday, the Tarrytown Fire Department said the NFL made Bill Duggan’s dream come true with tickets to the big game.

“A couple of weeks ago, he was given earth shattering news that he had terminal brain cancer and only had a brief time to live,” the post reads.

Upon hearing the news, Duggan’s family and friends launched a campaign to fulfill his Super Bowl dream.

A few days ago, a representative from the NFL got a hold of the organizers of the “Bill’s Bucket List” GoFundMe page and said they had a surprise for Duggan.

On Sunday morning, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell walked into the Main Street firehouse in Tarrytown and personally delivered the tickets. Video shows firefighters surrounding Goodell and Duggan during the special moment.

The fire department thanked the NFL for their “support of a man who truly deserves this gift.”

Super Bowl 52 will be held in Minneapolis on Feb. 4.
