Battling a Brain Illness, 'Sunny Side Up' 10 Year Old Calls for Helping Non-Profit

Her concern extends to the 3 million nationwide who are afflicted with epilepsy.

Marco Island - April 23, 2009 -- A young girl with firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by epilepsy patients asks for all to help raise funds and awareness for the third most common neurological disorder in the United States. Two days post-op and temporarily paralyzed on the left side of her body from a fifth radical brain surgery, Olivia Davis, the plucky fourth grader at Tommie Barfield Elementary School is still looking forward to helping with the fund raising for the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida's (EFOF) Walk The Talk for Epilepsy 2009.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, May 2 in New Smyrna Beach and Sunday, May 3 in both Hollywood and Miami.

The annual Walk The Talk for Epilepsy has consistently raised funds for the cause. Last year, at age 9, Olivia Davis participated and raised $1500 to beat out family friend and President of the EFOF, Patricia Dean. This year the unflappably optimistic 10 year old hopes to inspires others to give to new heights. Olivia says “I'm raising money for Epilepsy because it feels good to raise money to help other people. And I also have Epilepsy myself and would like to raise money to help find a cure.” To date, Olivia has now raised over $10,000 toward this year's fundraiser. She and mother, Stephanie, have current plans to publish a book to help other children suffering from the disorder. “I want them to be positive about themselves and their seizures,” says Olivia.

To help Olivia with her cause, she encourages donors to go her fundraising page at http://www.firstgiving.com/oliviadavis
